Core Aeration is one of the most important practices you can provide your lawn. When we aerate your lawn, we use a ride on aerator that will pull dirt plugs from the soil and lay them on top of the grass.
By removing these plugs, it will allow water, oxygen, and nutrients to reach the deepest part of the root zone. It also helps break up the compaction of the soil so your roots can grow deeper which results in a healthier lawn. Core aeration will help reduce your thatch layer in your lawn.

Fall is the best time, starting in late August and continuing through September.
Can I overseed after aeration?
Absolutely. We can also overseed while aerating. Seed settles into the holes left by the plugs, where it stays protected. You may see germination about two weeks after seeding. Water the overseeded areas to support germination.
What should I do with the soil plugs?
Leave the plugs on the grass; they break down naturally over time. You can mow after aerating, even with the plugs present. Mowing and rainfall help them break down faster.

We prefer customers to call in September or October. Once you sign on, we'll mark your driveway with snow stakes so our operator can see the edges and stay off your lawn.
What are your rates for residential driveways?
Most residential driveways in town are $40. Give us a call and we'll take a look at your driveway to give you an exact quote.
Do you provide snow services in the country?
Yes! We provide snow services to country properties with our plow truck. Call us for a free quote.
How much snow is needed for a driveway visit?
We clear driveways after snowfalls of two inches or more. We wait until the storm has finished before beginning our route.

Our five-application program keeps feeding your lawn throughout the growing season. Applications are approximately four to six weeks apart. A healthier, thicker lawn gives weeds less room to grow.

Choose the full program or the specific applications you need. After each visit, we leave a small treatment sign in your yard and place your invoice on your door.
We use equipment including the Turfco T3100 spreader sprayer and Z Spray by Z Turf Equipment to serve lawns in St. Croix and Pierce Counties.

A slow-release granular fertilizer feeds your lawn and prepares it for stressful summer conditions. We treat weeds if present.

Round 4 — Late Summer
Slow-release granular fertilizer focuses on sustaining color during the dog days of summer. We treat weeds if present.

Round 5 — Fall
A liquid fertilizer stimulates root growth and aids early spring green-up, along with a blanket weed-control application.

Stay off the lawn until the application is dry, usually 1–2 hours after treatment. Wait 24–48 hours after an application before mowing.

A few good habits make a big difference. Here's Fern's guidance for a thicker, healthier lawn.
How do I get a thick and healthy lawn?
Your lawn needs fertilizer, weed control, water and proper mowing. Mowing at the correct height helps grass fill in and shade its roots. We suggest a height of 3.5 to 4 inches.
What height should I mow my lawn at?
Adjust for weather conditions and mow no shorter than 3 inches. During summer, raise the deck ¼ to ½ inch depending on heat and rainfall. We normally mow non-irrigated lawns at 3¾ to 4 inches during stressful summer months.
Should I bag my grass clippings?
Leaving clippings allows them to decompose and return nutrients to the soil as natural fertilizer. If mowing leaves big clumps of grass on the lawn, we recommend bagging the clippings.
How often should I mow my lawn?
Never remove more than one-third of the grass blade at a time. When grass grows quickly, mowing every four to five days may be needed. Most lawns need weekly mowing, but water, fertilizer and temperatures affect growth.
